Whatsapp Introduces Click-to-chat: Send A Message From Your Browser
WhatsApp's Click to Chat feature allows you to begin a chat with someone without having their phone number saved in your phone's address book. As long as you know this person's phone number, you can create a link that will allow you to start a chat with them. By clicking the link, a chat with the person automatically opens. Click to Chat works on both your phone and WhatsApp Web.
To create your own link, use
For example if you want to send a message to someone whose number is 08012345678 which is a Nigerian number. Just delete the first zero put 234 in front of the other numbers
Use:
Don't use: https://api.whatsapp.com/send?phone=+2348012345678
To create your own link with a pre-filled message that will automatically appear in the text field of a chat, use
Example: https://api.whatsapp.com/send?phone=234812345678&text=Welcome%20to%20Nairaland
URL encoding works like this: Write the message together without spaces, spaces are represented by the character %20. So if you want to insert a space just use %20
So if you want to send "I am using WhatsApp" to the number 08012345678 then do this:
https://api.whatsapp.com/send?phone=234812345678&text=I%20am%20using%20Whatsapp
To create a link with just a pre-filled message, use
https://api.whatsapp.com/send?text=urlencodedtext
To write: "How are you?" write::
https://api.whatsapp.com/send?text=How%20are%20you?
After clicking on the link, you will be shown a list of contacts you can send your message to.
To create your own link, use
https://api.whatsapp.com/send?phone=followed by the person's full phone number in international format. Omit any zeroes, brackets or dashes when adding the phone number in international format.
