Airtel New Night plan and Data Offer - Get 500MB for N25, 1.5GB for N50

The former Airtel hourly base Night plan has been one of the best data plans which we really enjoyed for unlimited download, but I don't know who gave Airtel bad advised to increase the price of their night plan. Mtn took the advantage and  rescue us with the night plan of 500MB for just N25, which made lots of people forget the Airtel high price night data bundle and move on with the MTN cheap Night package.

It seems Airtel has learned from their mistake and reintroduced new night data bundle to replace the previous one. Airtel has chosen to follow the footsteps of MTN night packages by launched another Night plan which offers you 500MB for N25 and 1.5GB for N50.

The new Airtel night plan was accompanied by Airtel 1GB for N500 which is valid for 1week and  200MB for N200 + 30Min Airtel calls weekend offer and free 15mb for 7days when you recharge with N200.

To Activate The Offer
This plan is exclusively for SmartTRYBE users on Airtel, it means you must migrate to Airtel SmartTRYBE before you can enjoy the offer, dial *312# then reply with 1

To Subscribe to Airtel 1.5GB for N50, 500MB for N25 and 1GB for N500
» Simply dial *312#
» For 1GB which cost N500, reply with 2 - valid for 7 days
» For 500MB which cost N25 and 1.5GB for N50, reply with 3 - Night Plan from 12am - 5am
» For 200MB which cost N200 + 30Min call, reply with 4 - Weekend: Sat and Sun

Note: The call tariff on SmartTrybe features 11k/s calls charges for all national networks (N6.60K/min)

I can say that this is slightly better than the MTN Night Plan of 500MB for just N25, because with MTN night plan every SIM card entitled to a one-time activation per night, but this Airtel night plan can be renewed if exhausted, it means, you can resubscribe after exhausting the initial 1.5GB. In essence, you can use 3GB for N100 in just one night. When, this is ok, but no amount of capped data can balance with the unlimited data plan, Airtel please bring back our unlimited night plan with the reasonable price.

4G LTE Service in Nigeria seems to be what’s in vogue and we are now moving out of 3G gradually for 4G service

4G LTE Service in Nigeria seems to be what's in vogue and we are now moving out of 3G gradually for 4G service, each of the networks have different frequency bands for their 4G LTE and supported device is going to be the matter of contention.

To enjoy super blazing internet speed, it is not as simple as buying a 4G smartphone, inserting your 4G LTE SIM and start surfing with it. Guys, it is much more than that. Lots of people were disappointed when they discovered that their device doesn't support Glo 4G band 28 (700Mhz) after cat walking into the Glo office to get USIM.

It is important to know your smartphone 4G LTE bands and frequency to avoid story that touch. I will urge you to fasten up your seat belt and stay glued to the next information that will follow because I'm about to embark you in an unknown journey; trust me, you will be safe.

Read through this article to find out everything you need to know about 4G LTE bands, networks and smartphone compatibility.

Right now, 3 major networks have the 4G LTE service in Nigeria and they are MTN, Glo and Etisalat. Other networks in Nigeria with 4G LTE services are Spectranet, ntel, Swift and Smile. We are expecting Airtel to roll out their 4G services soon. Most of the 4G smartphones in Nigeria use band 3, 4, 7, 20 or 28Check out what band your preferred network has below:
  1. MTN 4G LTE , supports band 20 (800MHz) and Band 7 (2600MHz)
  2. Glo 4G LTE, supports band 28 (700MHz)
  3. Etisalat 4G LTE, supports band 3 (1800MHz)
  4. NTEL 4G LTE, supports band 8 (900MHz) and Band 3 (1800MHz)
  5. Spectranet and Swift, supports band 40 (2300mhz)
  6. Smile, supports band 20 (800mhz)
Those are the numbers folks and according what we heard, the lower frequencies tend to perform better in rural areas with fewer masts and they can travel through walls better with decent coverage while the higher frequencies do the opposite, but they can cope with more users in populated areas connecting at once. These are technical terms that I don't think you need right now, whatever frequency your preferred network has, you should get some decent upload and download speed. You could download 1GB file under 4-mins, and this is a fact!

To Check Your 4G LTE Network Band Via Mtk Engineering
  1. Download MTK Engineering Mode from Google Play here
  2. Install the app
  3. Tap MTK Settings
  4. Tap BandMode
  5. Select your SIM
  6. You will see a list of band mode, from GSM to LTE,
  7. If you cannot tick the band 28 check box, then forget about using Glo 4G LTE service.
  8. If you cannot tick the band 3 check box, then forget about using Etisalat 4G LTE service.
  9. If you are not able tick band 20 or 7 check box, your phone is not supported for MTN 4G LTE service. If you use Ntel and you can't tick band 8 or band 3, then your smartphone has no support for Ntel network.
For those who are not using MTK smartphones, before you purchase your next 4G Android smartphone, kindly ask via comment box below or simply tell us which 4G phone you are using and we as a family will help you out on 4G networks that supports your device.

waow - Android 8.0’s “Streaming OS Updates” Will Work Even If Your Phone Storage is Full

Google's most anticipated and upcoming Android 8.0 OS will now allow you to download updates even if your phone is low on storage. Apparently, this new feature called "streaming OS updates" has been introduced by the tech giant in its forthcoming Android 8.0 OS.

We've probably all had this happen at one point or another: you probably wanted to download an update for your smartphone ~1.6GB brick of an update file. On Android, normally this gets downloaded to the user storage partition and flashed to the system partition. But wait, if your phone is full of pictures, or videos, or apps, there may not be enough space to store the update file. In such circumstances, the update fails, and the user is told to "free up some space."

According to the latest source.android.com documentation, Google has cooked up a scheme to make sure that an "insufficient space" error will never stop an update again.

Starting with Android 8.0, the A/B system partition setup is being upgraded with a "streaming updates" feature. Update data will arrive from the Internet directly to the offline system partition, written block by block, in a ready-to-boot state. Instead of needing ~1.6GB of free space, Google will be bypassing user storage almost entirely, needing only ~100KB worth of free space for some metadata.

Streaming updates is a new feature built into Android 8.0, but, oddly, the docs say Google is also back porting the feature to Google Play Services. That will enable this feature on "Android 7.0 and later" devices with a dual system partition setup.
With this feature, you'll be able to download updates to your phone even when your phone storage is full!
